Uses: Lavender is mostly known for its ability to soothe burns, inflammation, cuts, wounds, eczema, dermatitis, fainting, headaches, influenza, insomnia, hysteria, migraine, nausea, nervous tension, infections, bacterial conditions, sores, ulcers, acne, boils, asthma, rheumatism, and arthritis. Lavender upholds the spirit and brings a sense of deep relaxation, as well as support compassion and tenderness towards others. This oil works well to support the mind, ease emotional anxiety, and soothe insomnia. Lavender oil is useful for soothing burns minor burns, dry skin, eczema and acne, improving the appearance of scars, giving comfort to irritated infant skin, relaxing muscular aches, calming backaches during pregnancy, and reducing swelling caused by sprains.
To alleviate aching or swelling, use a cold compress with 4 drops of Lavender, and 2 drops of Yarrow. Apply 2-3 drops of Lavender oil to minor burns, dry or chapped skin, on or around scar tissue areas. To soothe burns, sunburn, or eczema, apply a blend of Lavender, Roman Chamomile, and Spearmint to the affected area. To soothe irritated infant skin, use a blend of 1 drop of Lavender with 4 tsp of a carrier oil.
Lavender is also a helpful relaxation and sleep aid. Massage, inhale or diffuse lavender to calm your mind, body and spirit after a long day or stressful situation. For a restful sleep, vaporize 4 drops of Lavender, and 2 drops of Sweet Orange. To relax muscular aches, take a bath with 4 drops of Lavender, and 2 drops of Vetiver. Rub a few drops of lavender essential oil onto your hand and spread over your child’s pillow to help him/her sleep.
To quiet emotional anxiety, bathe with 2 drops of Lavender. Lavender is also a helpful household essential oil. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to a cotton ball and place in closets and drawers to scent linens and repel moths and insects. Place a few drops of lavender essential oil on a wet cloth or dryer sheet to deodorize and freshen laundry.
